Preparation of sponge titanium: at present, there are mainly magnesium thermal reduction method (Kroll), sodium thermal reduction method (Hunter) and molten salt electrolysis method. The advantage of magnesium thermal reduction is that the reducing agent magnesium can be recycled and the capacity of single furnace is large. In contrast, the product quality of sodium thermal reduction method is better and the content of metal impurities is low, but the production capacity of single furnace is small and the consumption of sodium is large. The molten salt electrolysis is still in the semi - industrial test stage.
