The characteristic of Ti6Al4V Titanium Bar

Ti6Al4V is a widely used α+β titanium alloy. It has excellent specific strength, excellent corrosion resistance and fracture toughness, as well as good welding performance and the ability to withstand the highest temperature, and can be strengthened by heat treatment. The alloy was originally developed for the aerospace market and is widely used in aerospace structural components. Because of its good bio-compatibility, it is widely recognized in the medical industry. Typical applications for Ti6Al4V titanium bar include components for aviation, fuselage components, Marine equipment, offshore oil and gas equipment, power generation industry, chemical industry, automotive sports parts, medical equipment, surgical implants, and sports equipment.

Advantages of Titanium

(1)High specific strength

The density of titanium alloy is generally about 4.5g/cm3 which is only 60% of steel. Some high-strength titanium alloys exceed the strength of many alloy structural steels. Thus, the specific strength (strength/density) of titanium alloy is much higher than that of other metal structural materials that can produce components with high unit strength, good rigidity and light weight. At present, titanium alloy is used for engine components, skeleton, skin, fasteners and landing gear.

(2) Excellent corrosion resistance

The corrosion resistance of titanium alloy is much better than that of stainless steel when working in humid atmosphere and seawater medium. Resistance to pitting corrosion, acid corrosion, stress corrosion is particularly strong; Good corrosion resistance to chlorine organic articles, alkali, chloride,sulfuric acid, nitric acid and so on.

(3) Great low temperature performance

Titanium alloy can keep its mechanical properties at low temperature and ultra low temperature. Titanium alloys with good low temperature performance and some titanium alloys even could maintain certain plasticity at -253℃. Therefore, titanium alloy is also a crucial low temperature structural material.

Applications

Aviation (Jet engine)
Ti6AL4V has high yield strength/density ratio and fatigue strength/density ratio under 500℃, good thermal stability, excellent resistance to atmospheric corrosion, and can reduce the weight of the structure. Application parts such as: housing, combustion chamber housing, exhaust mechanism housing, jet crown, etc.

The oil industry
It has good corrosion resistance in oxidizing and neutral media. In chemical fertilizer, acid and alkali, chlorine gas and seawater desalination and other industries, mostly used in heat exchangers, reaction towers, stills, valves, conduits, pipelines, etc.

The manufacturing process

The electrode is pressed after mixing the titanium sponge and intermediate alloy, Using vacuum plasma welding box to weld the electrode to ensure there is no inclusion and external pollution risk is the next step. Next, carrying out three times VAR melting to get high clean and uniform ingot. Several times forging process with large deformation to effectively break the grain by the 5000T High-speed forging equipment. Finally, Ti6Al4V titanium bar is obtained by rolling or extrusion.
