Microstructure and Properties of Ti 1023 Titanium Bar

Ti 1023 Titanium Bar is a β-type titanium alloy with high strength and toughness developed in the late 1970s in the United States to meet the needs of damage tolerance design principles. Its nominal component is Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al. The alloy has a series of advantages such as high specific strength, good fracture toughness, large quenched cross section,low forging temperature and strong resistance to stress corrosion, which can meet the design requirements of high reliability and low manufacturing cost.

Ti1023 titanium alloy contains high crystallization segregation element iron, and the content of iron in different parts of large size ingot fluctuates greatly, which leads to the difference of phase transition point. In addition, Ti1023 titanium alloy has great deformation resistance, poor forging permeability of large size billet and easy deformation temperature rise during forging, which all lead to uneven microstructure and poor performance consistency.

(1) The microstructure of the three specifications of Ti1023 titanium alloy bars are typical equiaxed microstructure processed in two-phase zone, which is composed of aging β matrix and spherical or short rod primary α phase. The degree of uniformity, equiaxed and refinement of the bar microstructure depends on the forging permeability of the bar.

(2)The consistency of room temperature strength in different parts of Ti1023 titanium is closely related to the consistency of microstructure. The better the consistency of microstructure in different parts, the better the consistency of room temperature strength.

(3) With the increase of bar specifications, the tensile strength of Ti1023 bar decreases at room temperature.

Applications

Ti1023 titanium bar has been successfully applied in landing gear, beam, frame, joint and many other large load-bearing structural parts of foreign aircraft, such as the rotating shaft bearing housing and flap slide of Boeing 757 aircraft, the wing engine short bay joint of Boeing 737 aircraft, the landing gear of Boeing 777 aircraft, the landing gear of Airbus A380, Among them, A380 landing gear Ti1023 titanium forgings up to 3210kg.
