Product Introduction

The Grade 6 titanium forging is a medium strength α type titanium alloy, which cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. It is usually used in the annealed state and has good fracture toughness at room temperature and high temperature. The alloy has excellent welding performance and is suitable for tungsten electrode and metal electrode welding process under inert gas protection. XRUN offers a wide range of titanium forging sizes across different grades. Grade 6 alloy which containing 5% Al and 2.5%Sn is developed as an intermediate strength, weldable alloy, Grade 6 was first manufactured in 1950. Its primary use was in applications requiring moderate strength and excellent weldability.

Grade 6 titanium forging

The Grade 6 titanium forging is stable in atmospheric conditions and seawater. Compared with Grade 5 alloy, the alloy is more sensitive to hot salt stress corrosion, which will occur when the alloy is heavily covered by artificial sea salt and exposed to 316°C and 207MPa for 100h. The Grade 6 alloy has good welding performance. Tungsten electrode welding (TIG) or metal electrode welding (MIG) protected by inert gas can make the alloy with high toughness at low temperature. Due to the brittleness associated with intermetallic compounds, argon arc welding, spot welding and seam welding are generally used.The β phase transition temperature of the Grade 6 titanium is 1040~1090℃.When the last deformation is carried out below the β phase transition temperature, the deformation should be greater than 25%~40%, and good mechanical properties have been obtained. The annealing process of it is 700~850℃ for 1~4h and air cooling.

Application:

The Grade 6 titanium forging is used for gas turbine engine rings, rocket motor castings, aircraft forgings and extrusions, areospace structural memebers in hot spots and other applications demangding good weld fabricability, oxidation resistance, and intermediate strength at service temperatures up to 480℃. The Grade 6 is employed for liquid hydrogen tankage and high pressure vessels at temperatures below -195℃, structural members for aircraft, and gas turbine parts.Engine adapter and front casing made of the Grade 6 titanium die forging and ring forging. As well as the parts such as lining, bracket and siding using sheet hot pressing have been used in the aviation industry. Because of its excellent corrosion resistance, the alloy is especially suitable for the manufacture of Marine parts.
