Product Introduction

Grade 6 Titanium plate is a typical α -type alloy with a nominal composition of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn. Aluminum and tin stabilize the α and provide solution strengthening.

Grade 6 alloy can not be strengthened by heat treatment, but can only be strengthened by recrystallization annealing. The recrystallization starts at 580℃, and the β phase transition point is about 1020-1030 ℃. The recrystallization annealing temperature of Grade 6 plate is 700~750 ℃

Grade 6 alloy has moderate strength, good creep resistance and thermal stability. Long-term working temperature up to 450 ℃, short-term working temperature up to 800~850 ℃. At the same time, it has good low temperature performance and welding performance. With the decrease of temperature, the strength increases, and the plasticity decreases slightly. Grade 6 ELI alloys with low interstitial element content, which still maintain good plasticity at -250 ℃, are commonly used as ultra-low temperature high-pressure vessels and are mostly supplied in the form of plates. Grade 6 alloy process plasticity is low, Grade 6 titanium plate metal stamping must be carried out in the heating state, generally heated to 700 ℃ or so before there is enough process molding.

Grade 6 Application Overview and special requirements

1) Application overview

The engine switch seat, front casing, sealing ring casing and the lining plate, support seat and wall plate, which are made of Grade6 alloy die forgings and ring parts, have been used in aviation industry.Grade 6 alloy is stable under atmospheric conditions and in seawater. Compared with grade 5 alloy, this alloy is more sensitive to hot salt stress corrosion, which can occur when the alloy is heavily covered with artificial sea salt and exposed to 316°C and 207MPa for 100h. So the alloy is widely used in Marine ships and other fields.

In the early 1960s, Grade6 titanium alloy has become the backbone alloy of titanium alloy used in American aviation. Grade6,Grade 5, industrial pure titanium in the aviation field accounts for 80% of the total amount of titanium alloy. However, due to poor forming plasticity, easy cracking, low yield, the yield of titanium alloy plate is usually only about 30%, and the quality is very unstable, has been industrialized titanium alloy plate "the most difficult to produce" grade.

2) Brittleness caused by interstitial elements and impurities

Grade 6 alloys are sensitive to brittleness caused by increasing interstitial elements and impurities, especially when used at ultra-low temperatures.


Grade6 heat treatment system:

1) annealing

Plate: 700-800 °C, 10-120min, air cooled;

2) Stress relief annealing

540-650℃, 15-360min, air cooled or furnace cooled.


Weldability:

The alloy has good welding performance. Tungsten electrode welding (TIG) or metal electrode welding (MIG) protected by inert gas can make the alloy with high toughness at low temperature. Due to the brittleness associated with intermetallic compounds, argon arc welding, spot welding and seam welding are generally used.

The strength coefficients of argon arc welded joints at room temperature, high temperature and low temperature are high. The strength coefficient of seam welded joint is higher at room temperature and high temperature, but lower at low temperature.
