Titanium Grade 16 Forging

Titanium Grade 16 forging has the best crevice corrosion resistance among various chloride-containing media at high temperature and high concentration.It has strong crevice corrosion resistance and hydrogen absorption resistance.When pure titanium was used in 3% NaCl solution, crevice corrosion occurred with the temperature reached 170℃, while Gr16 did not occur when the temperature reached 250℃. XRUN offers a wide range of titanium forging sizes across different grades. Grade 16 contains 0.04 to 0.08% palladium which is slightly lower than that of Grade 7 with minimum 345Mpa. It has strong corrosion resistant, high strength and good ductility. The addition of palladium not only significantly improves the corrosion resistance of Gr16 titanium alloy in reducing media, but also improves its corrosion resistance in oxidizing media.

Although the electrode potential of pure titanium is relatively low, its properties are very active, but in many media, titanium can exist stably without being corroded. It is mainly because pure titanium surface quickly forms a layer of dense and strong adhesion oxide film with certain self-repair ability in air or oxygen-containing media, Compared with pure titanium,Titanium Grade 16 has strong corrosion in many reducing media, and has stronger crevice corrosion resistance than titanium. Palladium element can change the anodic polarization characteristics of titanium due to its cathodization effect, which is a good alloying element of titanium.

Main materials

The main raw materials of prepare Grade 16 titanium alloy are sponge titanium and palladium powder. After mixing the titanium sponge and intermediate alloy, the electrode is pressed. Then using vacuum plasma welding box to weld the electrode to make sure there is no inclusion and external pollution risk.The Grade 16 ingot was produced by two times VAR melting . The product is obtained by multiple forging processes using 5000T High-speed forging equipment with large deformation to effectively break the grain. Similar to the industrial pure titanium, the α-lamellar structure is obtained after cooling slowly from β phase region, and the acicular α structure can be obtained when cooling rapidly from β phase region.Due to the single-phase α structure of titanium Grade 16 forging, it can't be strengthened by heat treatment. The heat treatment system includes stress relief annealing and recrystallization annealing. The recommended system is: stress relief annealing 480-595℃/1-4h, AC; Complete annealing: 650-760℃/30min~2h, AC.

It is especially used in reactors, towers, autoclave, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, centrifuges, separators, pipes, fittings and electrolytic cells etc. Ultrasonic test is to be done with AMS 2631 & AMS STD-2154.
